Thrombophilic factors in women with infertility

Abstract

Factors implicated as thrombophilic are related to serious deseases such as arterial events and venous thromboembolic and obstetric complications such as recurrent abortion and infertility. Patients with implantation failure may have thrombogenic disorders and should have higher implantation rates with the appropriate approach to this pathology. This paper proposes to identify the frequency of thrombophilic factors, such as anticardiolipin antibodies, lupus anticoagulant, protein C deficiency, protein S deficiency, antithrombin III deficiency, presence of factor V Leiden, mutation in the prothrombin gene and methylene - tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutation in patients with and without infertility. The investigation of the frequency of thrombophilic factors in infertile women and fertile women may help to improve infertility treatment and the prevention of obstetric risk in this population infertile women who get pregnant. Moreover, it is necessary to really evaluate whether thrombophilia is more prevalent in infertile population, especially in the Brazilian population. Objective: A case - control study will be performed to investigate if there is any differences in the frequency of thrombophilia between fertile and infertile women in our population. Subjects and methods: A case- control study with 130 infertile women attending a private and 260 fertile women treated at the outpatient family planning CAISM (Center for Integrated Assistance to Women's Health), ABC Medical School. Data analysis: in view of the chi-square and Fisher Exact test for the study of association between the presence of anticardiolipin antibody, lupus anticoagulant factor, deficiency of protein C and S and antithrombin III, factor V Leiden mutation 20210A in prothrombin gene mutation and ® Ala677 Val mutation in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, and a history of infertility. The importance of the factors analyzed in association with a history of infertility will be made by logistic regression. (AU)
