Abstract

In this project, it is intended to perform a study to determine natural regional variations of chemical elements and isotopes that occur in the State of São Paulo. State territory was subdivided into square cells of 160 x 160 km. In one cell samples will be collected from rock, sediments and soils for geochemical analysis and natural radioelements (234U, 232Th and 40K). The analytical data obtained from sampling in the field, together with a bibliographical survey of geochemical analyses already performed in the State, will be use to build up an overall preliminary geochemical picture of the region. With this new geological data, it will be possible to establish natural geochemical background values, allowing for an assessment to be made of the natural environmental quality of the State of São Paulo, with identification of regions that should have specific government policies based on their geological composition.
