Abstract

The objective of this study is to standardize the values of the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test, Portuguese version, for the Brazilian population. It will be the first olfactory test validated for the Brazilians. Method: The UPSIT will be applied to Brazilian men and women. The sample will be randomized and consisted of subjects without olfactory complaints on exam day. Volunteers will take the test after having answered a questionnaire. Will be analyzed first 60 people in each age group for each sex, as follows: 20-24, 25-30, 31-34, 35-40, 41-44, 45-50, 50-54,55-59, 60 - 69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and e 85 years. After this step, will be preliminary data analysis and, if necessary, be re-evaluated the initial calculation of sample size. (AU)
