Abstract

The Second Global School of Translational Science is driven by the study of diseases whose incidence rose dramatically with the increase in the life expectancy of the population. Cancer and neurodegenerative conditions, such as Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and diseases caused by prions, still incurable, represent a major problem for society and should drain a lot of resources over the next 20 years. The goal of the school is to provide a setting for discussion of molecular medicine, from basics to translational aspects, both in cancer and in neurodegenerative diseases. The program has added some of the leading experts in the field of basic research and treatment, in an environment that favors learning and exchange of cutting-edge information in the area. (AU)
