Thermal properties of polimeric materials

Abstract

Over the last years mathematical modelling has become an established tool for improving process control and product quality in polymer processing. As models become more sophisticated, there is an increasing need for reliable thermophysical properties data. There is a lack of data concerning thermal properties of polymers, and sometimes, conflicting data may be found in literature. In this work, a correlation between the the thermal conductivity experimentally measured and the polymer transition temperatures shall be searched. Sub-projeto 2- This technique is a steady-state comparative method, with a composite column consisting of standard material - sample material - standard material and a water cooled calorimeter. The column is heated by a furnace, and this technique was specifically designed for investigations of materials requiring a non-oxidizing atmosphere. In this work, a variation of the split-column method is proposed: the column is replaced by a cavity, whose walls are made of an insulating material and the bottom of the cavity is a hot plate which is heated by a very simple furnace: the temperature is controlled and variable up to 500oC.
