Abstract

The literature about inter-functional integration suggests that departments must move cooperation efforts in order to improve functional and organization results as a whole. Studies involving the functions Marketing, Logistics and Production have shown the inter-functional integration management as a way to develop improvements in the process and operational results. However, managers of these three areas have experienced relationships sometimes conflicting and motivated by the pursuit of individual goals. It observes that for this and other reasons, the joint performance of internal areas and the organization as a whole end up being harmed. This project has as main goal to investigate how to occur the integration processes between the functions of Marketing, Logistics and Production, and still, what is its influence on the functional and organizational results. The research will have a first stage that will include a literature review in the theme, advocating: inter-functional integration, the main interfaces between the functions Marketing, Logistics and Production and the mechanisms that influence the inter-functional integration between these areas and produce results sets. Then, it will elaborate an instrument to collect data in the field for the study of multiple cases in different sectors of industries located in the State of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. These industries that will provide necessary information must have an organizational structure that allows accessing the phenomenon studied. As a contribution, it intends to fill the gap identified in the literature, explaining how internal integration contributes to improve the results of the three functions identified in the organization's operation management as a whole. The results should highlight the reasons for the occurrence of such phenomena through the description of the process characteristics involved and the suggestion of new possibilities for resolution of this dilemma in organizations. Other result expected are: production knowledge with data of Brazilian situation, generation of publications that carry on the theme of the post-doctoral of the project coordinator, recently completed at the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville / U.S. (between August 2009 and July 2010) and to involve a research group in Marketing, Logistics and Production integration, advocating the training of researchers and publication in the subject area.
