Lot sizing and integrated problems

Abstract

According to Drexl and Kimms (1997) apparently lot sizing and scheduling interacts with other planning activities in a firm, for example: distribution planning, cutting and packing and project scheduling. The coordination of these planning tasks is thus a must in order to avoid high transactions costs. However, research has almost neglected the problem of coordination and provides no advice. Since making use of cost savings opportunities is a vital aspect in the presence of competition, solving coordination problems is probably the most crucial goal for future works. This research project intends to help to cover this gap on the researches with mathematical models and solutions methods for practical problems. The motivations to study these problems are the practical importance and the difficulty to solve being necessary to develop sophisticated mathematical/computational tools to solve it. (AU)
