Abstract

The set of biological events that happen in the larynx with advancing age because a lot of changes in configuration and functionality of the organ, featuring the concept presbylarynx to the senile larynx and presbyphonia the vocal characteristic of this population. However, the association of aging to cellular damage, and biomechanical tissue, increases vulnerability to various vocal changes. Objectives: Identify the immunohistochemical changes related to the process of senility of the larynx. Methods: For this study, will be used human larynges removed from 30 cadavers aged from 60 to 90 years, during routine autopsy of the Department of Pathology, Botucatu Medical School/ UNESP. In the constitution of the control group will be used 10 parts of the larynx of adult cadavers autopsied in the same service, aged between 30 and 50 years. The vocal cords are removed, fixed in 10% formalin for 48 hours, embedded in paraffin and prepared for the immunostainings. Will be excluded those with acute and chronic inflammatory processes, exulceration laryngeal mucosal lesions or other pathological morphology. The study will be performed immunohistochemical antibodies: laminin, fibronectin, collagen I, III, IV,V, acid hyaluronic and elastin. After preparation of the material, the blades of older people and adults will be reviewed by experienced pathologist by quantifying the density of labeling of each antibody in the lamina propria, identified by the degree of accumulation of color. Each component will have its color automatically selected by the Image Pro Plus 4.5 (Media Cybernetics, Silver Spring, MD, USA) which quantify the area in square micrometers (µ2). After randomization, the data will be transported to Excel Windows ® and placed in tabular form for statistical analysis. (AU)
