Abstract

The decrease in serum estrogen in the body occurred after the female menopause provides events and changes that occur in the short, medium and long term. In the short term, vasomotor symptoms manifest themselves, represented by hot flashes, menstrual abnormalities, emotional lability, insomnia and decreased libido. In the medium are observed urogenital atrophy, change in body silhouette, skin changes, among others. Already in long-term consequences manifest themselves at greater risk for degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cognition and osteoporosis. Hormone therapy (HT) prevents the complications of post-menopausal women and is the best treatment for signs and symptoms which occur in greater or lesser degree at least 75% of menopausal women. However, the prescription of HRT is accompanied by a series of questions. The main one comes to the safety of this therapy. In scientific literature there is much discussion about the role of hormone therapy at increased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular events in its users.Thus, it is essential to study the effect of therapies mentioned in the breast tissue, using for this purpose, an experimental model, which allows the most appropriate and histological examination.
