Abstract

Among the illnesses that involve cats, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is notable for having high rates of incidence and prevalence. Its etiology often relates to chronic interstitial nephritis. However we can go further. Contrary to what was envisaged during the eighties and nineties, the CKD has also become characterized more frequently in young animals, and the age therefore, no longer a decisive factor in bigger impact. Often the formation of uroliths in feline lower urinary tract, however, at now the occurrence of urolits in kidneys and ureters in cats has become increasing. There is much to explore in relation to nephrolithiasis and ureteral lithiasis. Anyway, the result may not exciting, especially if it was not possible to establish an early diagnosis. The risk factors have not been fully elucidated. The symptoms are nonspecific, and there is imminent risk of progressing to ureteral obstruction, hydonephrosis, kidney failure, increased retention of toxic substances, metabolic disorders and even death of the animal. Not yet established a correlation between the presence of uroliths and the development of CKD, or if uroliths are a cause or consequence of CKD. These whises to promote, among other issues this research initiative. The goals of this are avaluar the factors envolve in the occurrence of nephrolithiasis and ureteral lithiasis in cats with CKD.
