Abstract

To evaluate climacteric symptoms, treatments, sexuality, associated diseases and knowledge of menopause in women aged 45 to 60 years, who are native Brazilians residing in the Metropolitan Area of Campinas, associating these factors with sociodemographic, sociocultural and socioeconomic aspects. Methods: a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study is to be undertaken, using domiciliary population-based interviews with 655 women. These women were randomly defined by choice in proportion to the number of municipality inhabitants. Investigation will be conducted by interviewers who are trained to inquire about climacteric and sexual symptoms, diseases, treatments, knowledge and reasons for seeking healthcare services. For sample size calculation, we considered that a 70% proportion of the female population have climacteric symptoms, with a maximum desired difference of 3.5% between sample proportion and population, and type I error (alpha) of 0.05. Thus, we determined a total of 655 women. Statistical analysis is to be initially comprised of the presentation of frequency distribution and sociodemographic characteristics of the participants. Univariate descriptive analysis of climacteric and sexual symptoms, associated diseases and treatments used will be carried out, in which the prevalence rate will be estimated with its respective 95% confidence interval. Bivariate analysis of climacteric and sexual symptoms, associated diseases, search for healthcare services and treatments administered will be conducted, according to sociodemographic characteristics, using the prevalence ratio and respective 95% CI. Multiple regression models of Poisson will be adjusted for each symptom exhibited and for each treatment used. For data analysis, municipalities and census sectors will be considered as characteristics of the sampling plan. Thus, we hope to contribute to guidance of healthcare policies directed towards this segment of the population. (AU)
