Abstract

The conventional ophthalmic preparations have reduced residence time in the ocular region as a result of the protective mechanisms of the eye. In addition, the cornea acts as a barrier contributing to the reduced concentration of the drug in that organ. Thus, these products have low bioavailability. These limitations require patient adherence to treatment regimen with multiple administrations per day and substantial loss of the instilled material. Considering these limitations, the development of technology that allows obtaining products more effectively is crucial. Referring to recent advances, lipid nanoparticles obtained by homogenization at high pressure have significant advantages compared to the polymer nanostructures. Such advantages relate to the absence of organic solvents, in the process, and also it has lower toxicity, ease of mass production and stability during the sterilization process. Thus, the objective of this work consists in obtaining and physicochemical characterization of lipid nanocarrier associated with dexamethasone acetate and polymyxin B sulfate coated with chitosan. This proposal allows research continuity related to the patent PI 0904083-8 "The process of obtaining amphiphilic vesicles positively charged, amphiphilic positively charged vesicles, their pharmaceutical compositions and / or cosmetic and its uses," in 2010. This patent was derived from a project financed by FAPESP (Research Assistance - Regular: 2006/56979-1). (AU)
