Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the rate of utilization of the anaerobic work capacity (AWC) on the tolerance to exercise and muscle fatigue (peak torque) at severe intensity domain. Fifteen active subjects will perform the following tests in twelve different opportunities: 1) incremental test to determine the lactate threshold, maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and its respective intensity (IVO2max); 2) four submaximal tests to determine the relationship between VO2 x power; 3) test in the isokinetic mode (fixed pedal cadence = 120 rpm) to determine the peak torque (PTcon); 4) constant-workload tests (90%, 95%, 100% and 110% IVO2max) until voluntary exhaustion, to determine critical power (CP) and AWC; 5) two constant-workload exercise sessions allowing the depletion of 70% of the AWC in 3 minutes. In one session, the workload will be immediately reduced to CP + 10 W, and will be maintained until voluntary exhaustion. In the other session, the control of the workload will be instantaneously changed from the hyperbolic mode (fixed power) to isokinetic mode (fixed pedal cadence = 120 rpm) and the voluntary will perform 10 maximal revolutions to determine the peak torque (PTexp3) and; 6) two constant-workload exercise sessions allowing the depletion of 70% of the AWC in 10 minutes. In one session, the workload will be immediately reduced to CP + 10 W, and will be maintained until voluntary exhaustion. In the other session, the control of the workload will be instantaneously changed from the hyperbolic mode (fixed power) to isokinetic mode (fixed pedal cadence = 120 rpm) and the voluntary will perform 10 maximal revolutions to determine the peak torque (PTexp10).
