Abstract

The research targets to investigate the dropout phenomenon in outpatients in treatment for Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia. The average rates ranges from 50% and 30% for anorexia and bulimia respectively; is a worrying facing the high mortality rate. To know the aspects from the experience of the patients facing to access the symbolic universe of the meanings attributed to the dropout experience. Are supposed to psychological characteristics of the Eating Disorders are related to dropout. The goal is to understand the outpatient dropout phenomenon listening patients that dropped out. The appropriate methodology for achieving these goals is the clinical-qualitative approach. The sample will be closed through the collected data. The procedures consist of audio recording and literal transcription of the collected information, reading the records from dropouts and the "Field Diary". To compose the sample are criteria: patients with age over the eighteen diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia any subtype (DSM IV) that have dropped out from G.E.T.A/Unicamp. The sample will be closed through the saturation of collected data strategy. The procedures consist of audio recording and literal transcription of the data, reading the records from dropouts and analyzing the "Field Diary". For treatment of the data will be used qualitative analysis from content categories of contain and interpretation of outcomes will be sustained in the literature review as well as the theoretical framework of psychoanalysis. Is expected that the conclusions given elements to improve the strategies to contribute to the better quality of the assistance improving adherence and retention in treatment for eating disorders.
