Overcoming barriers to provide comprehensive health care to women who suffer sexual violence, according to Brazilian Ministry of Health Technical Guidelines

Abstract

This research project aims to evaluate the process and impact of an intervention whose purpose is to be given complete care to women suffering sexual violence according to the Technical Guidalines of the Ministry of Health, which includes the legal abortion. A study will be carried out, with an assessment during and after an intervention, attended by 20 hospitals located in different regions of Brazil, which want to implement complete care services to women who suffer sexual violence. The Intervention will consist of activities for a period of 8 months, it will be conducted by trained consultants to assist hospitals to effectively implement this service. They will discuss the barriers and needs with the authorities of each hospital and will provide the necessary training and support to them to implement the service. The consultants will be monitoring the intervention after 2 and 6 months since the first intervention, and they will be available throughout the intervention period to answer any questions and provide any additional documentation or technical support services to the participants. The intervention will also be evaluated during its implementation (month 4) and the end (the end of the month 8). For these evaluations the responsible for the service will be invited to answer by the telephone a structured and pre-tested questionnaire. The data will be entered into database prepared for this purpose, and and descriptive analysis will be carried out, tables also will be prepared with the frequencies from the variables of interest. The result of monitoring and evaluation during the intervention will help to correct some adopted strategies. The final results will be used to evaluate overall experience and the possibility of replication in other services. (AU)
