Use of endoscopy in diagnosis and treatment of seminal vesiculitis in stallions and in the study of the seminal plasma effects on the equine semen longevity

Abstract

Some studies have shown that seminal vesiculitis and the plasma fraction produced by seminal vesicle leads to damage to sperm quality, causing different degrees of subfertility, and even infertility in stallions. Thus, the aims of this study include: evaluating the effectiveness of local treatment guided by endoscopy of stallions with seminal vesiculitis, and index of kinetics, morphology and membrane integrity of sperm cells and presence of blood cells on the fresh semen, chilled and frozen before and after treatment. The local treatment consists in direct flushing of glandular lumen with saline, followed by infusion of antibiotics previously tested for bacterial sensitivity in vitro; compare the kinetic parameters, morphology, membrane integrity, apoptosis index, lipid peroxidation and DNA fragmentation sperm of healthy stallion, which is obtained with or without prior contact with secretions from the seminal vesicle. The evaluation will be made with fresh semen, chilled and frozen, obtained by artificial vagina, and the removal of vesicular secretion will be done using a catheter guided by endoscopy after sexual stimulation of the stallion.
