Abstract
The objective of this research is to set up a period of time restricted to the sixties and the seventies, placing in that context the work of the from Rio artist Rubens Gerchman. The mediations between art and social context are made through the analysis and the deception of his work then getting into the elements, connections and the sources that enabled the artist to notice the complex reality based on the military system period. Therefore, we tried to indicate the enlargement of the basis of the power of the rice categories through the called economic miracle and the acting of the artistic activities such as "Opinion 65 and New Brazilian Objectivity" simultaneously, besides the events of resistance such as the counterculture and the artistic experiments which allowed the comprehension of art starting from its own creation at that time.
