Abstract

Brazil has the highest Theraphosine spider (Mygalomorphae, Theraphosidae)diversity of the world since about 26% of the described species are found in Brazilian territory. To date, the subfamily is composed by 55 genera (being 14 monotypic) and 481species. The last cladistic analysis and key for the subfamily were done 15 years ago and contained only 30 genera but they were never updated. The goals of this project are to do a taxonomical revision and a cladistic analysis of Theraphosinae as well as to produce an updated illustrated key that allows specialists and non specialists to identify all theraphosine genera. Representants of all theraphosid subfamilies will be included in cladistic analysis, specially that with uncertain position. It will be used mainly morphological characters in thematrix, but behavioral and ecological characters also can be used. The cladistic analysis will be carried out using computer program TNT. (AU)
