Abstract

Quality assurance and safety in health services is a current requirement in the context of health that requires the participation of several themes. One of the emerging issues responsible for this warranty is the issue of nosocomial infection (NI), a serious public health problem, which generates a direct impact on the results of health care. The monitoring of this phenomenon is mandatory in organizations as collateral for patient safety and ethical care, efficiently and effectively. However, the current national situation regarding the surveillance of NI leads us to many problems, both by the state, as by the health institutions themselves. One of the main problems of this surveillance is the Information System, there is a blurring of national criteria for notification of these infections and an absence and / or inefficiency of information networks in several Brazilian states. In this sense, we propose a cross-sectional, exploratory and descriptive study with quantitative analysis that intends to realize a diagnosis of IRAS information systems implemented by State Departments of Health of the states of South and Southeast regions of Brazil. The study will be divided into two stages: data collection about health care structure of the states involved; and contact with the managers of the service the NI control and prevention in the State Departments of Health to interview with search for data about the surveillance NI service and its information system. Data collection will take place in 2012, after submission provided for the approval of the Ethics and Research of the School of Nursing, University of Sao Paulo. The results will be presented in a descriptive quantitative analysis with application of specific statistical tests. This study is intended to assist in developing actions for the surveillance of the NI, and the description of these systems with its positive aspects and possible failures to obtain this information.
