Abstract

Population aging, incontestable fact of Brazilian demography in recent decades, became the study of the older people of utmost importance for the social planning of the population that emerges in this century with this new profile. The literature refers to the difference in the survival of cohorts of older people observed according to some variables. In the city of Botucatu, São Paulo population surveys were conducted in the years 2003, 2006 and 2010, in order to evaluate the survival of older people (Ruiz, et al, 2006). The aim of this project is to develop survival data analysis using more general parametric models and apply them to data from the cohort of the older people, considering as "events" death from all causes and some specific. The use of these models becomes an interesting alternative to the standard Cox proportional hazards can result in better fitting. (AU)
