Technique of tomography angiography in dogs: normal reference

Abstract

The development of imaging as an alternative method for diagnosis of neurological diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) in small animals allows the use of new tools of imaging modalities, needed to get references from the normal cerebral blood supply in healthy dogs by the method of Tomography Angiography. This work will be performed in adult dogs, mixed breed, divided into three groups of five dogs each, of different sizes (G1: up to 10kgs, G2: 11 to 20 kgs, G3: above 21kgs). The animals used should have good general condition, and not present any neurological symptoms at the time of this study and earlier. After make simple images and with contrast medium, the ionic intravenous iodine-based, three-dimensional (3-D) tomographic reconstructions take place of the blood vessels of the brain. The location of the cerebral vessels is important in planning of different diagnostic procedures and surgical treatments. Therefore it is expected to develop the technique of Tomography Angiography of the brain in healthy adult dogs, for adequate visualization of the cerebral blood supply. (AU)
