Abstract

Exerting an increasing influence on the analyzes of education process, the Cultural Studies questions, what type of individual the hegemonic education project is forming considering the contemporary society, marked by inequality and cultural diversity. This field theory argues that culture, permeated by relationship of power, settles identity policies and definitely influences what is valued or not by the school curriculum. Considering corporal practices being cultural texts produced by the gesture, its problematic in Physical Education curriculum encourages students to take a particular individual positions. Consequently the objectives of this research: to analyze how issues of identity and difference are mobilized in the subject lessons; understand the processes of significance undertaken by the individuals in relation to the corporal manifestations and its practitioners with the use of a bricolage of research methods, intend to look into the daily life of an elementary school, interview teachers and student, examine documents and observe teaching classes. The critical hermeneutics will inspire interpretations of the material collected and its knitting. We suspect that the search for evidence to be inferred as the Physical Education curriculum works in the constitution of identities can contribute to making proposals more consistent with the time in which we live.
