Abstract

Regardless of the level of physical activity sedentary behavior has been an important risk factor for the health of adults. Older adults, corresponded to the age group that most shows this behavior in your daily routine. The objective of this project is to conduct a systematic review of scientific literature to describe the effects of sedentary behavior on the health of middle-aged and older adults. Methods: A literature review will be undertaken in the following electronic databases PubMed, SCOPUS, EMBASE, ISI Web of Science and Lillacs. The process of evaluating manuscripts will be performed by two independent reviewers. Selected papers must meet the following inclusion criteria: a) age: middle-aged and older adults; b) type of study: observational (descriptive, cohort, case control, cross-sectional, ecological). Articles that do not adjust their results for the level of physical activity or if they fail to objective measures of sedentary behavior will be excluded from the review. The meta-analysis will be performed if the selected studies presenting homogeneity in the results. (AU)
