Abstract

The overall aim of the project is to elucidate the effects of internal stresses and stress relaxation in both bulk and surface crystallization kinetics of glasses. The specific objective is: to extend and test Schmelzer's proposal for the effect of strains in surface vs. bulk nucleation. Recentiy Schmelzer at al. considered the influence of strains on the driving force for nucleation. We intend to test this idea taking into account the relaxation effects on this process. (AU)
