Abstract

Prof. Neill is proposing to develop a new approach to quantifying how deforestation influences the movement and processing of water and dissolved materials from land to small streams in the lowland Amazon region of Rondônia, in western Brazil. The foundation for this work will be field studies in two intensively-instrumented paired small forest and pastures watersheds in Rondônia where I have been collaborating on studies of hydrology and water chemistry using data already collected as part of the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment In Amazonia and a Fapesp thematic project (03/13172-2).
