Abstract

This is a fund request to support the visit of Dr. Reindert J. Haarsma, from the Royal Netherlads Meteorological Institute (KNMI) to Brazil. During this visit, for a three months period, Dr. Haarsma will cooperate in the implementation and use of the most recent version of the SPEEDO ocean-atmosphere coupled model in the investigation on how changes in characteristics of water inflow from the Indian Ocean in the South Atlantic affects the climatology and variability of the equatorial Atlantic in a coupled context. In these simulations will be explored effects of both natural and anthropogenic changes. In particular, it will be investigated the effects of variations in the position of the zero wind stress curl line (which can be altered due to anthropogenic causes such as the greenhouse effect). Due to the limited time in this visit, effort will be concentrated in the question on how changes in the water inflow will affect the coupled modes of variability in the equatorial Atlantic. (AU)
