Abstract

The understanding of the evolutionary and ecological complexities depends on the biodiversity analysis. The social wasps are highly diversified, which makes possible to organize them in some gradients of diversity, which help to understand the processes of transformation that favored their evolution to the present level. This project aims at deepen the knowledge on the biology of the social wasps regarding the aspects referring to the social interactions and to the evolution of the morphological castes in social wasps. Professor John Wenzel is one of the biggest current authorities in three great areas: Animal behavior, Social Insects and Phylogenetic Systematics. The investigator will develop a joint work on caste differentiation in a temperate-zone social wasp, as well as a study of social behavior of wasps. (AU)
