Abstract

Goal: This project aims to develop new compositions of materials (structural and coating) made from niobium for high temperature applications (HT). The goal is to contribute to the development of a thermodynamic database system (Nb)-(Fe-Cr-Al-Y-Ru-Si-B) to define the compositions of pairs of substrate/coating having an excellent resistance to HT oxidation. Background: The development of multiphase materials intended for applications in very high temperatures depend strongly on numerical simulations that are feasible only if reliable thermodynamic databases are available. These are developed by the CALPHAD method relying primarily on experimental thermodynamic and phase diagram information. Actions: in the scope of this project, the contribution to the goal mentioned above concerns the study of the subsystem Nb-Al-Ru, which will be treated according to the following actions: 1- Establish the thermodynamic modeling of the binary system Al-Ru in the light of new experimental information; 2- Establish a preliminary thermodynamic modeling of the ternary system Nb-Al-Ru.
