Abstract

During his visit, Prof. Macek will share his experience in the field of nonlinear analysis by means of two minicourses to be attended by Professors, post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows of the Mathematics Department of the Institute of Aeronautical Technology (ITA). The first course will be on nonlinear time series analysis, with applications to solar wind turbulence. The second course will be on multifractal analysis. We plan to complement the multifractal analysis os Prof. Macek's work on Ulysses solar wind data by computing the phase synchronization index developed in our group at ITA. Professor Macek will also give a talk on his low-dimensional model of convection in magnetized fluids. This same model will be employed in discussions about the viability of a work comparing its qualitative behaviour with direct numerical simulations of convection using the MHD equations, as done in our group at ITA.
