Abstract

This project aims to provide conditions to enhance research initiatives that have been conducted between faculty members from ESALQ and Professor Dragan Miljkovic, from North Dakota State University, in the United States and to build a research agenda for the following years. The main collaborative subject is the development of studies about the impacts of globalization, both economic and social, over the consumption pattern and obesity in Brazil, vis-à-vis impacts found for other countries. Besides the research proposal and the planned publications on this theme, it is also proposed to visitor to teach a mini-course on Welfare Applied Economics to graduate students of the Applied Economic program from ESALQ/USP, in Piracicaba, as well as to other possible interested students from other colleges. Additionally to collaboration on welfare and health economics issues, which will involve two faculty members from ESALQ, Professors Sílvia Miranda and Ana Kassouf, the visiting researcher will be also committed to other research initiative. This initiative relates, particularly, to the final review of a co-authored paper of Professors Miljkovic and Miranda with Professor Saleem Shaik from NDSU and Professor Humberto Spolador, from ESALQ, about the productivity in agriculture and the trade openness. The visiting scholar will also deliver lectures for ESALQ faculty members and graduate students on the subjects of co-joint research (above mentioned) and additionally on how to publish internationally in ranked journals, as the visitor has a wide experience as editor from international journals. Conclusively, it is expected that the program of the visiting scholar contributes, concretely, to improve publication and to strength the research network that seems to be promising between NDSU and ESALQ.
