Abstract

This research plan aims to contribute to the project "Palaeoidian occupation in Sao Paulo State: a geoarchaeological approach", funded by FAPESP, proc. No. 2009/54720-9, directed by Prof. A. G. M. Araujo, and also to improve theoretical and methodological background of the students in Archaeology of MAE with respect to main relevant issues of global prehistory, by three activities: 1) formal teaching with opportunities of summer schools abroad; 2) methodological research on some relevant Brazilian case studies; 3) application of a relational bibliographic geodatabase to the project "Palaeoidian occupation...". Teaching will be subdivided in two courses of two credits each, one on European prehistory (first semester) and the other on Asian prehistory (second semester), besides an open course (extension). It is also provided student's participation to field research both in Italy and Jordan. After multidisciplinary analysis of some cases of the oldest peopling of Mediterranean Europe and Near East, it will be analyzed with students the fundamentals of the models at the basis of Brazilian prehistory, also with monographic dissertations. This comparative analysis will be utilized in the discussion of the above project by model building on the peopling of South-American low lands. This project, beyond taking advantages of applicant's experience in quoted regions and of official necessary permissions, it is fully inserted in strategic research internationalization goals pursued by the hosting institution (MAE/USP).
