Abstract
During her stay at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of São Paulo (ICMC / USP) Prof. Maria Antonia Carravilla of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto - Portugal (FEUP) will participate both in research and teaching. Her stay at the ICMC aims to continue on-going research. In particular, the paper The Dotted-Board Model - A new MIP model for the Nesting Problem shall be concluded. Additionally, the visit aims to start new tasks related to the two-dimensional cutting problem: a) development of a resolution method for the two-dimensional cutting problem b) development of a model for the two-dimensional cutting problem applied to the manufacture of soccer balls ( in cooperation with Prof. Vianna Andrea - UNESP / Bauru). In addition to these research activities, the teacher will: a) give two lectures: one on the ICMC and another on the workshop on cutting and packing 2010/10133-0 FAPESP Thematic Project which will take place at UNESP / Bauru b) participate in the seminars of the Optimization Group, where she will interact directly with students of the group, c) give two or three classes in the course EMS 5923 - Topics in Optimization III, aimed for doctoral students of the ICMC and of universities nearby, d) participate in at least one jury for master qualification, e) will collaborate in a project "teaching with research" (USP) of a graduate student. We believe that this visit will be extremely productive not only through the above-mentioned research, but also because of the interactions of Prof. Carravilla during a few months with the students of the Optimization Group. This interaction will result from lectures and discussions with researchers and students of the group and through her contribution for the post-graduate course SME 5923 - Topics in Optimization III.
