Abstract

A direct relationship between radiographic image quality and greater value of line pairs in the receptors has been reported by manufacturers of digital radiographs. The aim of this study is to compare two digital intraoral radiographic systems for the diagnosis of root fractures in order to assess the correlation between the number of line pairs per milimeters and the image quality for diagnostic purposes. Will be used 64 human teeth with horizontal root fractures inserted into dental alveoli of mandibles. They will be individually radiographed using the systems: Digora optime® and VistaScan ®. The images obtained will be evaluated by three previously calibrated examiners with expertise in this imaging modality. The results will be statistically analyzed using Kappa, to obtain the inter and intra-examiner. Testing will take place diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity for each system. It is expected at the end of this study was to evaluate the increase in the amount of line pairs proposed by the manufacturer have influence on image quality aiding in the diagnosis of root fractures (AU)
