Abstract

Among the several nonlinear optic techniques, the Z-scan technique as a promising tool for the analysis of oxidative stress process in human lipoproteins. Using this technique will also evaluate the dyslipidemia in children with leukemia and solid tumors after selenium supplementation. Oncology patients have several metabolic abnormalities such as increased lipid oxidation of fatty acids, inhibition of lipoprotein lipase, increased levels of triglycerides, LDL, causing a loss in quality of life. Recent studies demonstrate the importance of selenium in the control of metabolic and immunological changes observed in patients with metabolic syndrome and sepsis, and that the intake of selenium can cause control of the metabolic changes.Preliminary studies by our group found that the children when supplemented with selenium in a period of 28 days show improvements very sensitive to adverse effects of systemic therapy / chemotherapy. Parameters such as fatigue, appetite and nausea were minimized and still found decreasing of the enzymes of livers and immoglobulins.The profile of the interdisciplinary project will deploy the Z scan technique at the Instituto de Ciências Ambientais, Químicas e Farmacêuticas of Universidade Federal de São Paulo - Campus Diadema, thus narrowing the physical concepts with the clinical and toxicological analyzes and applicability to the patient.
