Abstract

Carnivorous birds are parasitized by many species of hemoparasitos, many of which can also cause diseases in humans as agents of the order Rickettsiales. Few studies have been conducted in Brazil with the objective of detecting hemoparasites with zoonotic potential in birds, and usually the detection hemoparasites is by visualization of blood smears and his remark is often occasional need is more studies ascertain these agents and improve diagnostic methods, increasing their sensitivity and specificity. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) lends itself well to research hemoparasitos showed the highest sensitivity and specificity than traditional methods employees and for allowing phylogenetic studies. The association of PCR combined with serology allows further study of host parasite relationship and increases the diagnosis. The objective of this study will detect serologically and molecularly order the hemoparasitos Rickettsiales (Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Rickettsia, Neorickettsia) and the genus Bartonella spp. in carnivorous birds, performing a phylogenetic analysis based on molecular findings, for the agents with zoonotic potential. Held the blood samples of carnivorous birds (hawks, owls, vultures), free-living and captive, from different regions of Brazil. (AU)
