Abstract

As recommended by FAPESP, this project has multiple purposes, consolidated into a single project, integrating a multidisciplinary team in an emerging research center in a region lacking in investments in São Paulo state, where the banana is the main agricultural activity. Among the soil environmental factors, those related to acidity are the ones that interfere with productivity, especially in tropical regions. In banana plantations, there is no experimental data that indicate adequate saturation to achieve high productivity. In addition, the informations found in the various technical bulletins are conflicting. Thus, given the paucity of information in the literature, this study aims to evaluate the effects of liming on the implementation of a banana orchard, following its effects on soil fertility, on plant development, nutrition and productivity, on fruit quality, on the recommendation of setting economic as well as assess the duration of residual effect of liming during two years in the largest production region São Paulo.
