Abstract

Canine prostate can be used as a model for the comparative study in prostatic disease in men. The dog and human are the only species that naturally develop prostatic carcinoma (PCa). Most of the animals models are tumors induced in isogenic animals. In this context, a natural model should be study and characterized, as a prognostic biomarker, clinical trial potential and as a progression model from pre neoplastic lesion to PCa, in the same manner as in men. Although the dog is considered the best natural model for the study of prostatic disease, similar to men, there are few studies in the literature that sustain that. So, more comparative studies should be done, in order to better characterize the PCa in dogs. The role of C-MYC oncogene and NKX3.1 and CDH1 tumoral suppressor are well established in human literature, as well as the methylation process of these two suppressor genes in human prostatic carcinoma. The aim of this project is to identify the correlation among C-MYC, NKX3.1 e E-cadherin protein expression and NKX3.1 and CDH1 methylation in pre neoplastic and PCa in dogs.
