Dipteryx alata is a tree species form Brazilian Cerrado which is threatened by fragmentation. Fruits and seeds are human exploited and D. alata is a potential species to develop breeding programs aiming large scale monocultures, agroforestry and silvopasture plantations, and in recovery of degraded pastures. We aim the evaluation and conservation of D. alata genetic resources and the setting of a provenance-progeny test trial to interested tree breeders. Our goals are (1) to rescue genetic resources of two D. alata provenances (Paulo de Faria - SP and Campo Grande - MS) and establish provenance-progeny test trial in a silvopasture design, aiming the evaluation of genetic diversity through quantitative traits and microsatellite markers, as well as studying its mating system; and (2) to measure a D. alata provenance-progeny test trial at eight years old and convert it into a Seedling Seed Orchard, aiming the production of high quality seeds to reforestation or tree breeding purposes. Genetic variation, stability and temporal adaptability of silvicultural traits will be estimated. Genetic gains by means of multi-effect selection index method will consider a genetic thinning of 33.3% of trees per progeny resulting in the conversion into a Seedling Seed Orchard. With the material of thinned trees we will determinate biomass content through the direct method, aiming the calculation of the D. alata biomass factor to be used in formulae of biomass content prediction through indirect methods.
