Abstract

Professor Dr. Mamadou Jao, with solid training in History and Social Anthropology of Contemporary Africa, has focused in recent years on understanding how the urban Bissau creatively interrogates the successive crises that have affected the region and Guinea-Bissau in recent decades. He will have a crucial role not only with regard to the consolidation of an area of African studies among our graduate programs Social Anthropology and History, but also in a broader discussion on relations between humanities and contexts defined by notions such as crisis or disaster.
