Abstract

Although it has been used in most of dental bonding agents, the HEMA monomer (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylated) is considered one of the main components involved in earlier process of dentin-resin bonding degradation. The objective of this study will be to evaluate HEMA-free bonding agents, using the dentin permeability and bond strength methodologies. The evaluation periods will be 24 hours and one year, storing the specimen in artificial saliva. Four adhesives will be selected: one as a control group (contains HEMA), two HEMA-free self-etching adhesives and one etch-and-rinse adhesive (contains HEMA monomer only in the primer solution). For the part of this project involving dentin permeability, the sealing ability promoted by the bonding agents will be studied using the measurement of hydraulic conductance and the resin-dentin bonded interface micropermeability will use the confocal scanning laser microscopy. To evaluate the dentin bond strength, it will be used the micro-tensile bond strength test, followed by failure pattern analysis of the tested specimens using the scanning electron microscopy. (AU)
