Abstract

This study aims to analyze the prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) in women of a town in Greater São Paulo. This prevalence may contribute to better understanding of phenomena antepartum, perinatal and postpartum. This research will be part of an epidemiological study was a descriptive and cross-sectional and analyze the risk factors associated with the occurrence of the phenomenon. In this study of postpartum depression, the variables are all measured, so quantitative. Will be used to Postpartum Depression Edimburg Scale (EPDS) (SANTOS, 1999) and a form of family socioeconomic characterization of puerperal prepared by the researcher. It is hoped that the results of this study may help to reveal aspects that justify and base the development of public policies aimed at the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of PPD. The understanding of the reality of women who go by the symptoms of postpartum depression can contribute to improving health services. (AU)
