Abstract

Crime is one of the mains problems of the Brazilian cities, which significantly impacts the population welfare. The main aim of this project if to carry out a victimization survey in the city of Sao Paulo. The survey will allow us to develop detailed information about the victims and consequences of crime in the city of São Paulo, to estimate the number and types of crimes not reported to the police, and to investigate the evolution of victimization over time. The Centre for Public Policies has carried out surveys in the city of São Paulo in 2003 and 2008. The CPP's victimization surveys are the primary source of information on the characteristics of criminal victimization and on the number and types of crimes not reported to law enforcement authorities in the city of São Paulo. The results will be particularly useful for guiding policies aimed at deterring crime and to support future research on the determinants of criminality. (AU)
