Laboratory facilities for nanostructured materials preparation, processing and characterization

Abstract

The objective of this project is the installation of facilities for the preparation, processing and characterization of nano-structured materials. These facilities are necessary to perform R&D tasks that cannot now be undertaken due to the lack of suitable space and infra-structure. This situation can be better understood by comparison with the Nanoscience and Technology Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing that counts with eight units devoted to the preparation, processing and characterization of nano-tech materials and products and one only unit for their characterization. Quite different from that configuration, LNNano has two characterization units and one only fabrication unit. The consequence is a drastic limitation to creative activities that can finally translate into innovation and also hinders partnerships with companies and other academic organizations aiming at innovation. This project is a first step to change this situation. Beyond, some funds are reserved for complementing the installation of the scanning probe microscopy laboratory, electron microscopy sample preparation laboratory and cryomicroscopy image processing, Funds will be used as follows: laboratory installations (air conditioning, electrical, electrical, hydraulic and safety installations): R$ 447.330,00; equipment for chemical operations and materials preparation: R$ 49.411,00; equipment for materials characterization and chemical analysis: R$ 334.381,35 e consumables: R$ 100.002,14.
