Abstract
Several epidemiological studies show that hypertension in adulthood is associated with the mother's diet during pregnancy. In humans, the reduced number of glomeruli is related to hypertension, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease in adulthood. In our laboratory, Alves-Rodrigues Jr. et.al studied the adult male offspring from Wistar rats which were fed a low salt diet (HO- 0,15% NaCl), normal salt diet ( NR-1,3% NaCl) or high salt diet (HR-8% NaCl) during pregnancy. In this study we observed that the adult male offspring from mothers who received high salt diet during pregnancy have developed left ventricular hypertrophy in adulthood in response to chronic salt diet intake, independent of high blood pressure. Using the same experimental model, this project aims to study the structure of the heart and kidney of the offspring at birth . It will also be evaluate the expression of components rennin- angiotensin system in the heart and kidney by the method of immunohistochemistry. (AU)
