Abstract

This project aims to obtain funding from FAPESP for the visit of Professor Dr. Hipólito Domingo Carvajal Fals, from the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UNICAMP, for a period of one year, from July 2013 to July 2014. The prof. Dr. Hipolito Carvajal has experience in welding and thermal spray; he did his doctoral and postdoctoral studies at UNICAMP in the group of Metals Welding and Surface Treatments, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Trevisan Roseana, currently retired. The prof. Dr. Hipólito presently coordinates a research project of international cooperation funded by CAPES, titled Tribocorrosion new materials with hard coating, which is being run in between the University of Oriente, Cuba, the Methodist University of Piracicaba and the Federal University of Uberlândia, Brazil. His experience in metallurgical characterization of welded joints and studies of the influence of process parameters on the morphology of the deposits and the related metallurgical phenomena will contribute to enhance the results of the research projects of the group of prof. Dr. João Batista Fogagnolo, related to surface treatment by laser in titanium alloys, and extend them to studies in laser welding of thin sheets of titanium alloys. His visit will also bring benefits to undergraduate and postgraduate in Mechanical Engineering from UNICAMP, by offering courses by the visiting professor. (AU)
