Abstract

The visit from professor Ian Mackenzie, Full Professor and researcher from the Blizard Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, aims to increase and consolidate the partnership between Bauru School of Dentistry/USP and the researcher as well as his foreign Institution. The link between both Institutions began in 2010 with the visit from the proponent and Assistant Professor Camila de Oliveira Rodini Pegoraro, who did her visiting post-doctoral fellowship at professor Ian Mackenzie laboratory funded by an Abroad Research Scholarship by FAPESP (2010/19708-5). During the visit some research activities are proposed such as the conclusion of scientific manuscripts related to the post-doctoral period, as well as the discussion on joint projects, which are already being planned together and will be soon submitted to FAPESP as an Young Investigator Award. Besides, the proponent is also a member of the research group GENCAPO that participates on an ongoing Tematic Project (2010/51168-0) as well as this new project to be sumbitted. Then, professor Ian Mackenzie will also visit some Institutions from the GENCAPO group members such as São José do Rio Preto School of Medicine (FAMERP; Head Institution of the Tematic Project), São Paulo State Cancer Institute (ICESP) and Barretos Cancer Hospital. Besides scientific discussions, the visiting researcher will also give two lectures, one at FOB/USP entitled "Cancer stem cells - origins, properties and consequences for therapy", which must be widely publicized and opened to the whole scientific community, and another at ICESP entitled "Stem cells, cancer and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition", more restrict to GENCAPO members. To fully complete this agenda a 23-days period was suggested, according to the availability of the visiting professor. (AU)
