Abstract

Nowadays, there are only few studies aiming the improvement of the eco-efficiency of dry concretes, focusing not only on technical and economical performance, but also on the environmental aspects. Physical and mechanical properties of dry concretes depend on porosity, which is controlled by porosity, granulometric distribution, packing density of aggregates. This research aims to compare, in terms of eco-efficiency, two strategies to formulate dry concretes with construction and demolition waste (CDW) recycled aggregates obtained by two different processes. CDW recycled aggregates will be produced by conventional (crushing) and advanced (density separation for porosity reduction) processes. Classical formulation strategies (with maximum packing density) and innovative ones (with maximum mobility) will be tested for reduction of pores and free water content, in order to improve physical and mechanical behavior, and eco-efficiency (by reduction of cement consumption for a given strength). Eco-efficient dry-concrete formulations with CDW recycled aggregates will be proposed to surpass sector paradigms. (AU)
