Abstract

Network Motifs, or simply motifs, correspond to small patterns that recurrently appear in a complex network. They can be considered as the basic building blocks of complex networks and their understanding may be of interest in several areas, such as Bioinformatics, Communication, and Software Engineering. Researchers from different areas use motifs as an analysis tool, in particular to characterize regulatory sequences within a genetic chain. The main objective of this research is to perform research in motifs from the perspective of Computer Science. I intend to develop fast algorithms that detect motifs. The results of this project also includes a tool for detection of motifs that will be made available to researchers in complex networks. (AU)
