Displacement, experiences and everyday - São Paulo Centuries XIX and XX

Abstract

This work intended to bring a contribution to the study of the Portuguese presence in SP (1890 and 1950). The analysis seeks to recover memories and everyday experiences of Portuguese immigrants, incorporating various dimensions such as work, politics, resistance and traditions, recovering the diversity and dynamics of these absorbing occupations that men and women, adults and children in their trajectories. The research incorporated a large and varied body of documents and was developed in several archives: Archive Nacional, Archive do Estado de São Paulo, Memorial do Imigrante de São Paulo, Casa de Portugal e dos Açores de São Paulo, Torre do Tombo, CEPESE, Archive Distrital do Porto, Bragança, Braga, Viana do Castelo e Açores. The book is organized into six chapters. The first priority is the discussion of historiography and departure and arrive societies. The second discusses the policy for immigration in São Paulo, sequence analysis aimed at the daily lives of Portuguese women immigrants and the experiences that involved Portuguese immigrants (emphasizing the azorres). Finality in "Towards a Cultural History", studies the culture and tradition, cuisine and sensibilities, analyzed through the letters and correspondences located on the Memorial of immigrants in SP.
