Abstract
The quantification of dynamic events, like the heart movement, is one of the most challenging applications in the field of image analysis. Cardiac movement analysis is a complex task carried out by a highly qualified specialist and is mainly concerned with pathological motion interpretation, related to coronaries circulation deficiencies, myocardial anomalies or intraventricular electrical conduction deficiencies. Despite its importance, computer-aided dynamic cardiac motion scene interpretation has not been widely studied. The quantitative analysis of global and regional heart movement by means of 3D dynamic PET and SPECT has the potential to increase the diagnoses quality of cardiac diseases in relation to the results currently obtained with these techniques. In the present project we intend to address some steps involved in the 3D dynamic PET and SPECT images quantification process: quantification of the heart movement; image representations able to capture relevant features for image analysis. Specifically we will focus on parameters that can be important for diagnosis and therapy, like the temporal volumetric behavior of 3D dynamic structures and the characterization of movement. We also intend to evaluate friendly and intuitive interfaces for presenting the information to the doctors. The proposed methods will be used in a clinical application: analysis of ventricular dyssynchrony. (AU)
